Oakland University (OU) is a comprehensive, doctoral-level university of more than 17,000 students. The university has 113 bachelor degree programs and 84 graduate degree and certificate programs. Dedicated to delivering a distinctive undergraduate experience that is complemented by the strength of its graduate offerings and research accomplishments, Oakland is organized into the College of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Business Administration, Education and Human Services, Engineering and Computer Science, Health Sciences, Nursing and The Honors College.

OU is home to many centers and institutes including the Pawley Institute for Lean Learning, the Applied Technology in Business program, the Entrepreneurship Institute, the Fastening and Joining Research Institute, the Center for Robotics and Advanced Automation and the Product Development and Manufacturing Center. Many Automation Alley consortium member companies are involved with these research centers and institutes. For example, Oxford Biomedical Research, Inc. and Self Guided Systems have both successfully incubated programs at OU.

OU is committed to assisting university-based and SmartZone™-based start-ups and spin-outs to locate and secure technology development, business planning and capital acquisition as well as providing opportunities for the licensing of Oakland University's intellectual assets.
